Dr Paul Myres
Chair
Paul is a retired General Practitioner (Family Medicine) who worked for thirty years in a practice near Wrexham in NE Wales. He has a long-standing interest in palliative care in the community. His youngest son, Andy attended Penley School which had a link with St Saviours in Leribe, North Lesotho. Andy had a great time and Paul met teachers and students from Leribe when they visited Wales. When Paul became Chair of the Royal College of GPs (RCGP) in Wales in 2012, he visited Lesotho with Honorary Consul for Lesotho in Wales Carl Clowes and met the director of the Family Medicine Training Programme, later establishing a link between RCGP Wales, Dolen Cymru Lesotho Wales Link and Family Medicine Programme, Leribe. He has been part of seven visiting healthcare professional teams supporting training in mental health and palliative care. He has also been involved in the training Dolen Cymru has provided to other health care professionals in Lesotho and visited schools in Thaba Tseka, Leribe and Maseru. He was chair of the Dolen Cymru Lesotho Health Group until 2019 and has been chair of the Trustee Board since November 2018. He is also treasurer for the Wales and Africa Health Links Network and on the Board of Hub Cymru Africa.
He and his wife enjoy walking and are slowly completing a circuit of Wales. Paul raised money for Dolen Cymru for the first 100 miles along the north Wales coast and more recently by abseiling by (and in!) the 630 ft waterfall at Semonkong. Paul sings in Cantiones choir in Oswestry, Shropshire and enjoys wildlife friendly gardening, growing fruit and vegetables.
Paul has been Chair of SOHH since 2021
